Sally Whoever Does Whatever
A faux-radio show where I do whatever I want and play you a little music too. Follow on Soundcloud and Mixcloud to listen.
Ep. 15: Circle of Love, Trust, and Abortion with Molly Gaebe
What is uppppp? This week on the show, we welcome my pal (oh she’s also an activist and comedian), Molly Gaebe! We talk about how we met (abortion), comedy, and throwing a Titanic themed party. We also discuss “Darling,” a project we co-created based on our experiences in abortion work. It’s a super fun chat and I literally laughed so hard that I cried. Music is just super fun and I think you’ll gotta stream it to believe it.
Ep. 14: On Top of Being Racist Genocidal Trash — You Guys are Fucking Wack
This week on Sally Whoever Does Whatever, we chat the wild ride that was this week and I tell you the story of the time I disrupted a Nazi gathering. Music is extra random but I think you'll enjoy it. Give it a listen and come say hey on IG.
Ep. 13: It’s Not Supposed to be Easy
Okay, it’s not all fun and games. On Episode 13 of Sally Whoever Does Whatever, I talk about keeping people in my life who I don’t necessarily agree with in hopes of keeping conversation open to promote leftist ideology. We talk the genius of @nonamehiding and the work that’s already been done to promote real change in a country obsessed with violence and capitalism. I could’ve talked about it for hours, but honestly it’s not needed. We’ve got the framework for change. I also talk about my visit to my hometown, childhood photos, and trauma too.
Music is HOT and hip-hop heavy with jams from Jaden, Madlib, and a southern gem, Big K.R.I.T.
Ep. 12: Some Day I’m Gonna Upset Somebody - My Apologies in Advance
Not “upset somebody” as in “tHe WoRlD iS tOo Pc” but upset somebody as in, “When I write about it, I’m gonna tell my side of the story.”
Another episode that’s basically one long tangent, pretty sure I said “like” over 100 times, my bad, I’m so sorry. I’ve never denied coming off a little, uhhh, ditzy. It is what it is. This week, I talk about going back to my hometown for a few nights, trying to steer clear of drama even when people are sucking you into it...a.k.a. I tell the TLDR story of the time I discovered an...article? Piece of literature? Well, something about me, written by someone I’d never met. That was definitely a weird chapter in my life.
Ep. 11: You Do Not Need to Have an Identity Crisis in Office Depot
Welcome to Sally Whoever Does Whatever! This week, I welcome musician and artist Carmel Liburdi into the studio IRL to chat about career identity, making time to work on your craft, determining who gets the block on social media, and “patina” being the word of the day.
Music was straight off the cuff and features a heavy hitters like El Michels Affair and Solomun along with people you should be following like Chase Moore and Fredo Algebra and of course Carmel <3
Ep. 10: A Type of Magic
On today’s episode of Sally Whoever Does Whatever, we celebrate making it halfway through Season One, announce the final show on May 28th (it’s gonna be extra special, I promise), and talk about being mindful of your negative thoughts. I update you on my recovery as a workaholic and spin some seriously chill shit including a veritable bop from Rock Steady Disco.
Ep. 9: I Set a Bunch of Shit on Fire
WOW I DID IT. It was a feat getting this episode together between traveling this past week and learning new equipment (baby’s added digital to her repertoire but I’m struggling). But hey, I did it, and this episode isn't bad at all. We talk about the fun parts of visiting South Florida (hello, manatees and palm trees) and some of the first CDs I ever listened to.
On a serious note, I get honest about the insidiousness of racism in white communities and share how that intersects with my love of graffiti. It’s not always fun, but it’s the truth, and we’re doing the work over here.
Music is FUCKING great and swings between contemporary hip-hop ( Vel The Wonder, A7MC, Jah Connery) and electronic (James Rudie, EVM128, and more).
Ep. 8: Let Them Know I Was Controlling Everything w/ Deidra Coleman
This week we chat with Deidra Coleman the host of ShadeTreeReads and Now That’s What I call Black Love” on YouTube. We talk internet drama (some typical some not so much), reading romance novels waaaay too young, and Virgo habits. Music is sweet and soulful with a touch of reverence (we can thank the Nina Simone track for that). Let’s get it poppin.
Ep. 7: Gimme a Few Sips of Your Kool-Aid
Happy Friday, Episode 7 is here! I may or not have been straight up rambling this episode but it’s worth a listen. This week, I visited Aura Aura, an “experiential portrait practice.” I had a great time, especially once I looked at their work as one giant collaborative art project. Music is a veritable grab bag of fun stuff from electronic tracks to jazzy and soulful tunes from Habibi Funk.
Ep. 6: Humans are Story Making Creatures
This week, our show has its first guest, friends! We talk to Comedian Gabe Pacheco (@Gabepac1) about his long-standing comedy show @FunhouseComedy and using tarot as a tool to tell yourself a positive personal story. Music this week is like a warm tropical breeze with a generous mix of reggae, jazz, and funk. We’re gonna have a good time.
Ep. 5: She Will Punch You With Her Gun
On today’s episode of SWDW, we discuss being in touch with your feelings, the iconic sadbade that is the Virgin Mary (sorry, that might be sacrilegious), and being a tough bitch despite greatly valuing sorrow. Music is heavy West Coast with some mellower stuff from north of the border, I’m talking about Canada if that wasn’t clear.
Ep. 4: It’s a Vibe (Not a Fun One)
It’s Valentine’s Day Weekend, love birdies, and I’m swooning for you. On today’s episode of SWDW, we discuss prison abolition, putting an end to saying “you guys” (I fail), and discuss pervasive angst and absence. We listen to some really wallowly funk and soul and attempt to get some rest.
Ep. 3: Irresponsible Lady About Town
This week I let you in on my (Tik Tok) performance anxiety (stage fright people, wow) and talk about having a newly found true crime obsession. Listen as I gloss over the trauma of working during the Covid surge in April 2020 to instead discuss whether or not I’m an introvert. Tunes today are extra special and include a track by my very talented friend Moe BPM, Piya Malika and an Eddie Logix boogie from a record which was delivered via skateboard.
Ep. 2: 7-Year-Old Rhinestone Cowboy
On this week’s SWDW, I measure how melancholic your first screen names were and share the slightly embarrassing story behind my own. We talk about being unsupervised online too early, MF DOOM (RIP), and a Stones Throw Records party at Marble Bar in Detroit.
Ep. 1: We’re Best Friends Now
Sally Whoever Does Whatever is a faux-radio style show where we’ll chill each Friday; I plan to chat about whatever is on my mind that week and spin some records (whatever I’m in the mood for that day) too. Give me 20-40 min of your time and I'll play you something nice. As far as the music goes - got some classics for you and two moody tracks from Detroit’s very own Jay Daniel too ✌🏻
